West Virginia OT Debuts Children's Book Highlighting Her Platform

Friday, 17 May 2013 09:20

Miss Southern West Virginia's Outstanding Teen Krystian Leonard will debut her children's book, Shining Scars, at the BookExpo America in New York City this month, where she will also be available to attendees for book signings.

She will have the opportunity to meet approximately sixteen hundred members of the media, from fifty-nine countries. Shining S.C.A.R.S is also the name of Krystian's platform that brings awareness to the trials of those who live with visible scars. During her book signing at the Expo, Krystian will promote her platform as well as the MAOTeen scholarship organization.

Later this summer, Krystian will have a public book signing and launch party in her hometown. She was also invited to the local VA to dedicate her book to the library there and speak to the veterans about her platform. "It is my hope to be able to provide my children's book, Shining Scars, to all Children's Miracle Network Hospitals around the country," she said.

Krystian got involved in the MAOTeen program in February 2013. “I am excited about all the opportunities I have been given since becoming involved with the Miss America Organization last February. I am humbled to think this is the reason Shining Scars was born!”

In addition to her own book, Krystian will be featured in two others—a book on how to win pageants by Lynn Salsi, and a coffee table photo book featuring people with scars by Jenny Cutler and Timothy Acuna.
