The Eyes Have It

Try these eye techniques from Artistry by Amway.

Seascape
Using an eye shadow brush, highlight the inner corner of the eye and brow bone with Antique, a soft beige. Sweep Shell, a soft purple, across the eyelid from the lash line to the crease. Mix Shell and Drift, a golden brown, and blend into the creases to create natural definition. Apply Lagoon eye pencil along the upper and lower lash lines, connecting at the corners. Use the built-in smudger tool to soften and blend the line. Soften by applying Seafoam, a pale turquoise, over the eyeliner. Complete eyes with mascara on the top lashes.

For the cheeks, use a blush brush to sweep over entire Fresh Radiance cheek color quad. Follow the cheek bone from top toward the corner of the mouth to create a sculpted effect. If desired, blend outward to soften. For a subtle highlight, apply the lightest cheek color at the temples and along the top of the cheekbones.

Finish the look by applying Raspberry Shimmer lip gloss. Blend Sparkling Lavender on top to create a shimmering effect.

Ultimate Eye Look
Use your ring finger to gently tap Crème LuXury Eye 360º around the eye. Start under the eye at the inner corner, moving outward. Next, do the same thing on the eyelid, under the brow. It is best to use a tapping motion to prevent pulling and stretching of the delicate skin around the eye. Continue to tap in a circular motion until the product is fully absorbed. Crème LuXury Eye will help prep the skin for makeup and help skin act up to fifteen years younger.

Line the upper lash lines with Automatic EyeLiner Pencil in Espresso. Using the Lavish in Cashmere Trend Colour Collection Eye Shadow Trio in Coco Brown, with an eye shadow brush, sweep the White Shimmer share on eyes from lash line to crease and use to highlight the inner corner of the eye. Blend the Taupe shade into the eye crease with an eye shadow brush to create a natural contour. Using a wet eyeliner brush, apply the Copper Brown shade over the eyeliner created earlier and extend to a wing at the outer corner of the eye. Complete eyes with Ultimate Black Mascara on the top lashes.

headshotSpray tanning and its many facets is a wonderful way to give your skin a healthy glow while avoiding the harmful UV radiation in tanning beds. Kelly Richardson, president of Be Bronze, thinks so too, in fact, she sat down with fourpoints to give us (and you!) the scoop on spray tanning know-how.

How you look onstage is the end result of months of training and preparation for your pageant. Unfortunately, the harsh lights of the stage "wash out" everyone's skin tone, and highlight flaws, scars, and imperfections. Getting a spray tan as part of your pageant prep will not only even out your skin tone, but will also make your skin look tan and healthy when you are in the spotlight. An added bonus: getting a spray tan make you look as if you lost ten pounds, and most professional spray tanning products have caffeine, which temporarily constricts the skin, making it appear firmer.

If you are doing a local pageant, definitely get your spray tan a day or two before the pageant. Make sure you wax/shave beforehand and that you get your tan AFTER your manicure, pedicure, massage, or any other spa treatment that might possibly exfoliate the skin. State pageants are usually a week in length and usually the spray tan you get pre-pageant is not going to last the entire time. Most of the girls we work with get spray tanned the evening before swimsuit/physical fitness and then again before the final night.

Not even the best spray tanners can spray themselves at home. You will always need help with your back. There are many great at-home tanning systems made by professional companies that are lower in cost than a salon/pro system. Another option is an aerosol mist, which many contestants used this year at Miss America. Whether or not you are getting a professional tan, or getting one done at home, there is a lot you can do to ensure you get an even tan.

The first and most important thing is to make sure your skin is not wet. A lot of us jump in the shower before we get sprayed or apply a self-tanner. Having skin that is still moist can cause a spray tan or self-tanning lotion to run on our skin and will result in streaks.

Make sure you have exfoliated with a "water based" body polish or scrub.

Lastly, make sure that you shave or wax before your spray tan. Doing this afterward actually removed the layer of skin that has been tanned, and can create splotchiness.

Cetaphil Body Lotion

51-ylyp-pdL._SL500_AA300_For those of you living in colder climates, you know that dry skin season is upon is. It's not pretty think about – or look at. But that's okay! If you start using Cetaphil Body Lotion, you won't have anything to worry about. This stuff comes in a big tub – I usually get mine at Target – and lasts for a long time. The moisturizing punch it packs is incredible – if I put it on at night, water beads up on my skin the shower the next morning. It's not a super fancy product, to be sure, but it absolutely gets the job done!

Birch Box

In case you couldn't tell, I am totally in love with beauty products. So when I found out about Birch Box, I had to sign up immediately. Birch Box is a kind of a "beauty product of the month" club. For $10 each month, you receive a package with 4 or 5 deluxe beauty samples. The $10 includes shipping, which is really great. When you sign up for the service, you fill out a beauty profile that lets the good people at Birch Box know your likes, dislikes, skin type, hair type, etc. so they can better tailor the product samples to your needs. This is my first Birch Box I received, and I got: a fancy body lotion sample, a Kate Spade perfume sample, Jouer Lip Enhancer sample, and a very cool cloth hair tie. For $10, you can't beat it! If you are a beauty product fan like me, sign up!

Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner

cg_liquilineblast_eyeliner_1For years, I've relied on the standard (and slightly retro) kohl eyeliner for all my eye makeup needs. But lately, I've found that it's tough to line the upper lid with the kohl pencil and it tends to bleed a bit under my eyes. On a whim, I picked up this eyeliner. It's still a pencil – not a liquid pen, which I don't care for much—but it's got a nice, fine point and a smudger to boot. I was pleased with how easy it was to use, even on my upper lids, and it stayed put all day. I even had a "contact mishap" and after much eye watering, my liner was still in place. Sold!

Boar Bristle Teasing Comb

Friends, I thought I knew all there was to know about backcombing and teasing my hair. I considered myself to be somewhat of an expert, truth be told. But then my hair stylist told me about the boar bristle 31-OTv3eJeL._SL500_AA300_teasing comb. I don't know how long these things have been around, but I love them. The extra bristles result in some SERIOUS volume (hallelujah) and also help smoothing over the hair once you are done teasing. I got mine for about 7 dollars at the drug store, but you can also find higher end combs at salons and hair salons.

Shellac Manicure

cnd-shellac-fall-2011-1If you get your nails done regularly, you have probably heard about the phenomenon that is the shellac manicure. This debuted in nail salons about 6 months ago, and it is amazing!

I recently had a shellac mani done, and it was awesome. I got my nails shaped and cuticles groomed, like a regular mani, and then my nails were painted with the special shellac polish. I chose a neutral beige shade. In between coats, my hands were put under the UV box to "fix" the polish. After a base coat, two coats of polish, and a topcoat, my nails were good to go. They were dry immediately, and perfectly shiny and intact for nearly two weeks. The price was a bit more than a regular mani, but it also lasted a lot longer than a normal mani. There aren't as many colors of shellac polish yet, but you can always buy your own and take it in to your nail salon.
