MAO Contestants Move Toward Final Night of Competition

Thursday, 12 September 2013 20:46

The audience and anticipation surrounding the Miss America Organization competition is building as we move one day, and another preliminary competition, closer to the final night of competition Sunday. Two scholarships were awarded at Thursday night's event as each contestant did her best to impress judges with her talent, fitness, intelligence, and poise.

Wearing a white bathing suit by Catalina swimwear, Miss Georgia Carly Mathis won a $1,000 for her commitment to lifestyle and fitness.

And performing with an injury, Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones was awarded a $2,000 scholarship for talent. Myrrhanda tore her ACL during competition rehearsal Thursday afternoon and was admitted to the local hospital. Even so, she asked doctors what she needed to do to perform her baton twirling talent on the Miss America stage. Judges watched as she performed every twist and toss with precision, poise, and perfection.

Miss America contestants across the country who compete in local, state, and national competitions continually prove their commitment to success, even through life's unexpected obstacles.
