Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan spent time in Virginia the past two days visiting several Norfolk area military commands with the USO.
On Monday Teresa visited Langley Air Force Base where she met with local Airmen and their families at a base hanger and children at the base’s youth center. She had dinner at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek USO center that night, where she had the opportunity to visit with local military groups.
Yesterday, Teresa visited Naval Station Norfolk where she enjoyed having breakfast with the sailors and answering their questions.
One sailor in attendance spoke about relating to Teresa on being young and having a lot of responsibility representing America.
“I can relate to her because in the military a lot of us are right out of high school, have huge responsibilities in leadership roles and we represent America wearing the uniform.”
“It’s an honor to be here working alongside the USO,” said Scanlan. “I am looking forward to working with them throughout the year. I am honored to have the opportunity to do many great things in support of the military. It is a privilege for me to be able to meet the service members, and I am very grateful for their sacrifices and what they do for our country.”
After her appearance at the Naval Station, Teresa hosted the grand re-opening of the ASYMCA/USO center at the Norfolk International Airport and afterwards, met the troops at Fort Lee.
