Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron has spent her year traveling across the country raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and combating the stigma that comes with the disease. Tomorrow, World AIDS Day, Caressa will be participating in the"International Conference on Stigma: The Attitude that Spreads HIV" on behalf of the National AIDS Fund at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Caressa will deliver opening remarks to the conference and will co-facilitate a workshop, "Stigma: Effect on Youth and Families." During the free, all-day conference, Caressa and hundreds of attendees will eliminate the stigma associated with HIV that keeps those with the disease from seeking proper care and treatment and protecting others from HIV. It is the first international conference on the stigma related to HIV. Caressa will join doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers from Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean.
The conference is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public.
