Salisha Thomas was seventeen years old when she started competing in the Miss America Organization. She is currently Miss Fullerton 2013, but ever since she was a little girl, she has wanted a sparkly crown and to be "Miss 'Something,'" she said. Now, competing is about more than the crown for Salisha; for four years of hard work and preparation, she has become healthier, more confident, polished, poised, eloquent, elegant, and unafraid to be herself. Salisha sings for her talent. "I got my musical theater training at California State University, Fullerton and so I feel confident and ready to share my talent with anyone, anywhere and anytime (which is something I could not say four years ago)," she said. Her platform is Spotlighting Children with Disabilities.
Salisha is in a new Disneyland show in which she performs as lead vocalist. She is also gearing up for the Miss California pageant, and winning a free evening gown from the Make Me A Cover Model contest "would be such an amazing blessing," she said.
To those who are considering joining the Miss America Organization, Salisha says, "Never give up. If it’s something that you really want, keep trying. Allow yourself to grow and mature into the best version of yourself. The day I stopped comparing myself to the other contestants and felt confident that being myself was good enough, was the day I went home with the crown.
