Oh my gosh, you guys. This has been one incredible, whirlwind week!
The other night, I was watching the preliminary competition. The theatre was darkened and I was sitting in the back and as I looked out over the audience, the enormity of this event hit me. We are all here celebrating 90 years of this wonderful organization. What a massive history, and it was all contained in one room. I felt very lucky to experience that moment, and to be able to share it with all of you.
I attended a Miss America Alumni event yesterday at the Paris Casino that was put together by Jack Lawson. I had the MOST fun talking with volunteers who have been with the organization for years. Their perspectives on the pageant and the tradition are really very interesting. It is always very inspiring for me to be around people who have dedicated decades of their lives to MAO. The fire they have for the young ladies who compete and the relationships they have built over the years with other volunteers...I don't know that there is another organization in the world that can boast the same thing. Pageant people really stick together.
Today was super exciting. We had the Quality of Life press conference where SO MUCH HAPPENED.
First of all, Miss Michigan won Quality of Life! Miss New Jersey and Miss Delaware were the runners-up. Miss DC Stephanie Williams is the first recipient of the fourpoints scholarship, and we are so proud to have her as our first winner.
Then? All the former MIss Americas that are here (almost 50 of them!) came out and we had a Q and A with them which was totally fascinating.
AND THEN the brought out Chris Harrison, Brooke Burke, and Tony Eaton. It was so fun to hear them talk about the pageant from all angles.
Stay tuned for photos of all this stuff! I will load this as soon as I get them into my computer!
Talk to you soon, pageant friends!
