Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan had a truly memorable weekend in Nebraska. Her trip began with a stop in Lincoln to make a special appearance at the Nebraska Press Association’s annual convention. She visited the press brunch where the Association presented scholarships to journalism students. The keynote speaker was Olympic Gold Medalist Curt Tomasevicz, of the 2010 USA Bobsled Team, also a native of Shelby, Nebraska. Everyone was truly excited to have two native Nebraskans who have achieved such high honors in the same room.
Then, it was off to the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers Spring Football game, where more than 67,000 fans packed the stadium to cheer on their beloved team. Teresa was beyond thrilled, as it was the first time she had ever attended a Huskers game. The crowd went wild for “their” Miss America and Teresa enjoyed signing autographs and posing for pictures with excited fans throughout the game. The beautiful day ended with the Nebraska Press Association’s banquet dinner, where Teresa gave the keynote speech.
Following her visit to Lincoln, Teresa went to Omaha to be part of a dedication celebration for the new TD Ameritrade Park, which will be the home of the NCAA World Series. The special event was attended by approx. 200 of the major donors, sponsors and VIPs who made the Park a reality, including Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, and it was the first time anybody was allowed inside the Park to see the finished product. Teresa was welcomed with a standing ovation upon introduction. After her remarks, she entertained the crowd with “White Water Chopped Sticks."
